A thunderous sound filled the air early this month, a brilliant pillar of red flame flaring into the sky above the Barren Wastelands. Immediately great fear spread across the land as an unknown mist started to fill rooms and spread throughout, causing animals themselves to turn on their masters and the innocent standing by.

A group of magickers, curious as to what this was caused by, entered the Barren Wastelands and inadvertently interrupted the remnants of a gruesome, bloody ritual performed by Cordilia, Yaribelle, and Menoch, as well as the beguiling Lea and her Mistress the Griever. Caelya, Melina, Sarrius, and Ziat were swiftly destroyed in due course by the furious Goddess for their trespassing, and it seemed that nothing could be done about what terrible thing had been unleashed upon Aetherius. Rumours flew on wings of fury, fueled by the confusion of what could be done now.

The terrible mist spread furiously, making animals rabid with fear and anger. While many denizens in the cities and councils tried to help, a great deal of confusion remained. How was the mist to be combatted? A great deal of solutions were proposed, all of which failed. As the mist spread from room to room, it was discovered that a certain sort of mist somehow contained enough power that from this point spirits could be called by those familiar with the bonding spirits. However, the spirits seemed easily killable, dying over and over again without any change to the mist. The spirits at the same time seemed incredibly powerful, having the ability to cause the mist to explode people from the inside-out, become invulnerable, or swallow people up.

Finally some progress began to be made as mist started disappearing. The spirits seemed enraged at this, becoming stronger and stronger until the twisted guardian spirit would appear at each summonable location. When each spirit would die, their essence would glow golden, cleansing the rooms around it of mist. With this in mind, both antimagick and magick fought tirelessly to combat the tainted spirits, opposing not only each other but the increasing inability to maintain a bond with nature's spirits, as well as the demonic force's angry retaliation.

At some point the force of spirits were detectable by those fighting it, and with these strategic locations in mind, the combined forces of antimagick and magick made quick work of it. It's unknown if the mist is entirely defeated, but for now the ritual of nature's lamentation seems to have been halted. Whether there is truly more at stake, however, is yet to be determined.
