The Year of Frost

A terrible winter descended upon the magick city of Kinsarmar some months ago, something disastrous that shook the very towers of the great city. Citizens within the city first noticed a brilliant glow descending above their city, and the clouds became turbulent and thick, showering Kinsarmar with snow, hail, and an immense cold that chilled even the very bones of everyone in the area. This bizarre set of weather changes came shortly after the Staff previously found was stolen by a raiding Horde group.

Around this time it became clear that the orrery that was unlocked when the sarcophagus was revealed did not seem to be working properly. Its arms seemed jammed in place, and the obelisk itself seemed devoid of power. When an orc servant was discovered in the orrery, cowering from any "fleshy" who came near him, his orders to search for a power source for the orrery were intercepted by the magick citizens.

After some consideration and preparation, Salen, the Priest of the Arcane, suggested use of a meteor-like stone that had fallen from the sky some years back, just before the stirring of the Lady Eloweth became known among mortals. With caution, chips of the stone were retrieved, and it was found that once put into the obelisk, the orrery powered on.

Time passed. Individuals stood watch over the orrery, tinkering with the complex mechanism but unable to tell exactly what it did. Finally, after a few months, Ohm and Ilysa happened upon the orrery when Aryana was closest and in Full Moon, and a new chamber was unlocked. However, it was bare, completely unlike the sarcophagus that had been unlocked. Soon, Sukhder's chamber was opened, Ziat, Galt, and Ohm having solved a puzzle involving braziers and torches. Within the burial chamber was a sarcophagus bearing a flame-charred skeleton.

The final sarcophagus was found in the chamber of Moradeim, and it was at this point that a full story was understood regarding the Staff. The pieces of the book found in each chamber told the tale of an ancient council torn apart by the consequences of rancor among skilled magickal experimenters. Many theorized that each sarcophagus held one of the main individuals referenced in the pieces of the book. However, what was an understanding of the past to those still suffering under this Year of Frost and Winter?
