Note: This guide assume prior knowledge of the Tradeskill system. For an in-depth look at Crafting for first-timers, consult HELP TRADESKILL.

As an example, we're going to design some trousers from start to finish.

1) Find a Pattern
Pants are a Tailoring item, so we'll want to search the available Tailoring patterns. PATTERN LIST TAILORING would show us a list of all available Tailoring patterns, but who wants to look through that entire list? PATTERN LIST TRADESKILL TAILORING NAME PANTS will show all Tailoring patterns with the name "pants" (there's only one). Use PATTERN LIST HELP to see a list of all PATTERN LIST filters.

2) Create a Design From Your Pattern
Now that we have a basic pattern to work from, we want to copy its fundamentals onto a design that we're able to modify to our needs. DESIGN NEW <pattern #> is the basic structure of the command. Pattern #47 is the "pants" pattern we found above, so let's DESIGN NEW 47 to create a "pants" Tailoring design for our manipulation and use. It'll cost a little gold.

3) Set the Details of Your Design
Now you need to describe your new pants. Using the design number you got from DESIGN NEW, you can use DESIGN <des#> SET <field> <value> to edit information. For example, if our design is 22222, " DESIGN 22222 SET APPEARANCE green leather pants " will set the appearance for your new fashion atrocity.

4) Submit the Design
When you're all done designing your pants, you'll need to submit them for approval by the Craft Guild. That'll cost a little gold, too. They'll set the proper commodities and approve or reject your design. It takes 3 approvals to make a design usable or 3 rejections to officially kick the design back to you for revisions.

5) Craft Your Approved Design
When your design is approved, it's time for Pants! Gather the commodities set by the Craft Guild and a sewing needle (or sewing machine) and DESIGN <des#> CRAFT. After a bit of time, you'll have some awesome pants.
