Your Lesson

Sobriquet,

Thank you for the congratulations, Regent. I am pleased that you are so interested in what happens within the Holy City to notice my promotion. I live to serve the Lord, and bring my youthful vigour to the role.

Your awareness bodes well for Hashan's future and your own quest to finally embrace your secret urge to join Mhaldor, since you wear the title of a Mhaldorian.

However, I beg to differ on "fear" being our motivator. The only "fear" that exists is in your petulant post, and how you grandstand to hide what truly exists at the heart of your city and army.

Over the past few years that I have led the charge into the Court of Shadows, I have noticed numerous deep weaknesses in your ranks. Least among them how your army cowers behind closed doors, fighting and bickering amongst themselves whether to engage the Lord's soldiers, or to flee the city entirely. As well as the your heavy reliance upon hired guards. How much of your city have I destroyed? How many guards have fallen beneath the might of Mhaldor? This is not fear, but a lesson I will impart upon you.

You have made steps in embracing the Lord's tutelage. This year, your Generals have stopped cowering, and started leading out into other cities. Though you have not been able to succeed in any destruction of the Holy City, I have seen the smoke rise from Targossas. This last skirmish even saw your army rely on their own cunning, and not your mercenaries. Your city is finally embracing the Lord's Fifth Truth. While the Court of Shadows is still weak, you have shown ambition in embracing the Lord's tenets. But, you are not quite there yet. Will you falter, or will you continue to strive towards Perfection?

However, I will grant you a small boon. In my estimation, you have elevated your cities standing above Ashtan, who now cower behind their hired guards. I wonder if they notice how they falter, how the discontent grows in their streets and festers behind closed doors. Will they follow your example and turn their sinking city around, or will they continue to plummet into obscurity? Only time will tell, and Mhaldor will be watching to see which city is worthy of the Master's favour.

I look forward to seeing your city continue to grow in Strength. Do not fail me, Hashan.

Lord Marshal Syndra Aristata

Penned by my hand on the 14th of Glacian, in the year 761 AF.
