Eleusis

Addressed to: Everyone

It has taken me a while to decide what I want to say, following this torrent of vitriol. Even now as I write this, I'm unsure of if it's my place, in my youth, to speak out. For several years, I've remained silent as people have shouted, and yelled, and posted their thoughts on things like who has the most important ideals in Sapience, and why do servants of Good do things that upset other people, and simply ignorant statements that make no sense to me in my youth.

I would first like to say that this highway, like all of the highways of Sapience, is going to happen, barring Lord Deucalion Himself decreeing otherwise. As the minister of development, I'm going to ensure it does, because connecting Jaru to the Raphaelan Highway is progress that benefits not just the Dawnspear. This fact is not up for discussion, it is not up for debate, and Targossas - and I, specifically - am not afraid of you, Eleusis, because there's no reason to be. You can rage all you want, but Creation wants us to move forward: that's part of its purpose, to create, and it creates through us as often as it creates on its own.

You seem so angry, Eleusis, about a simple highway. Were you this angry when Shallam existed, linking the two together? Were you this angry when Glanos and Sahart founded Shallam and Ashtan? Were you this angry when a mountain was overturned and dropped on Lord Sartan? Did you lash out when Lord Sartan created the Baelgrim Fortress? Do you weep for Nature when Darkness taints it, like it did the Darkenwood, or the Qurnok Cypress?

All that I see among you are people who reap the benefits that Creation gives, through Good and Evil and Darkness, and that Chaos somehow manages to contribute in spite of its consuming nature, while arguing that we are wrong for doing it. You build ships. You own homes. You sell things in shops. You mine, and use these resources to better yourselves, the way that we do. You are just like us, in Targossas, with the difference being a division of faith.

I don't seek to convert you, because many of you have no desire to learn, or to understand. You follow the will of your Divine, as we do. I hope you don't follow blindly, as you seem to accuse us of doing. I can assure you that I, and all that I know in the Dawnspear, do not. We follow the Bloodsworn for myriad reasons. We believe in our cause, just as you believe in yours. We listen to the Dawnlord, because he is he Voice of the Bloodsworn, but we are allowed to question each other. We are allowed to debate, and bicker, and discuss what service really means. We are free, and live a life of choice.

We are your enemies because you want us to be, but Nature is not an enemy of Good. Only their servants are enemies, because you put yourselves into our path to obstruct something that will benefit you. You stand against us because of our fervor, and that is your choice. If the Chaos we fight consumes everything, there will be no Nature anyways. If Lord Sartan blights your forests, what will you have to protect? And we have all seen the Darkenwood, and the Cypress, and I would not wish that on Nature.

I know that you will read this and find some offense to point out and write back, angry, or condescending, or cruel, because that is all you ever do, bicker senselessly - some of us do it too. I simply hope you remember that Nature, like Good, has no true need of us; it fight no wars with Good, only its people do. I'll pray for you, Eleusis, and continue trying to understand why you are how you are.

Penned by my hand on the 13th of Valnuary, in the year 756 AF.
