Consequences

Scarlattans,

As I was just told a story by one of your own, I thought I would share my own story with you all. This story, however, deals with the reality of the situation, and not the twisted, short-sighted vision of somebody who wishes to avoid the consequences of involving themselves in another's affairs.

During the month of Ero, a shrine was raised to Lord Scarlatti at the ocean cliff outside of Hashan's north entrance. This was done with Targossian corpses, whether knowingly or not, and with corpses collected by citizens of Ashtan.

This shrine was raised in place of a shrine to the Lightbringer that had been raised as a statement to the Order of the Usurper after She stole Patronage of the Occultists House from the dormant Mad God.

You see, we in Targossas are sworn to oppose all who would stand alongside the forces of Chaos. In supplanting Babel, Ourania has declared Herself a direct supporter of Chaos and its most fervent acolytes in the known world.

On the 13th of Ero, I spoke to one of your followers, Perl Alexandrian, and I asked her to pass on a message that if I saw another one of your Lord's shrines raised in place of a shrine to my Lady for the duration of this conflict, I would not see another of His shrines in these lands.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I awoke later in the month to find that a shrine to Scarlatti had been raised in the garden of Moonlight in Tasur'ke on the 16th of Ero, again in place of a shrine to the Lightbringer. Imagine my consternation with the defiance of these courtesans!

A message was swiftly passed through Kaden Vas'amaen-Ashaela on the 5th of Valnuary to inform the Scarlattans that they had until the end of the month to remove the offending structures, or they would be removed by force along with all other traces of Scarlatti's visible influence in these lands.

Which brings us to today. Lupar rolls around, and still the shrines to your Lord stand. Imagine my dismay.

Alas.

Let it be known that choices have consequences. The shrines to your Lord in Tasur'ke and on the North Road shall be reduced to splinters and dust, and when we are done with Ourania, the rest shall follow.

There is no mercy for fools in the teachings of Light and Fire. Those who cloak themselves with feigned ignorance shall fall alongside those they are foolish enough to ally with.

Learn this lesson well, children of song, and remember it next time you think to involve yourselves in the conflicts of another.

In Their name,

Dawnlord Silas Maynard de l'Evanoir
The Voice of Light

Penned by my hand on the 1st of Lupar, in the year 644 AF.
