Heroes

I'm not a hero. I'm not a knight.
I'm neither a saviour nor a beacon of light.
I'm not a hero, I'm just a man
living my life the best that I can.

I'm not a hero!
Does that make me any less of a man?
I've got no castle, I've got no steed,
but I still try to live by doing good deeds.
My sword is a pen, and though mighty it may be,
though I try to be the best that I can,
my words are quiet and they always betray me.

I'm not a hero. I'm not a knight.
I'm neither a saviour nor a beacon of light.
I'm not a hero, I'm just a man
living my life the best that I can.

I'm not a hero!
Does that make me worth any less?
I'm not a leader, I'm not a fighter,
but I still try to make your burdens lighter.
My shield is my wit, and though sharp it may be,
though I try to make order from this mess,
my words are quiet and they always betray me.

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb,
but no matter how much I want to be like them,
the things that made them who they were-
strength, hope, kindness, courage-
shone in them like a raging fire.
Yet I sit here, a dying ember,
dimmer and dimmer despite my desire.

I'm not a hero. I'm not a knight.
I'm neither a saviour nor a beacon of light.
I'm not a hero. I'm just a man.

But I will live my life the best that I can.

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Sarapin, in the year 756 AF.
