Poetry News Post #4661

An Experiment

Sacrifice your life to war and you'll just be dead
I'd rather live for my ideals and do the work instead
It's hard to die for the truth, harder still to live,
To accept that we all make mistakes and learn how to forgive
Righteousness is heavy - its weight will make you sink
Happiness is worth much more - let's sing and have a drink
Life's too short to spend it all on arguments and fights
Life's too long to be alone for the sake of being right
Bitter kawhe tastes okay; a bitter heart's just sad
It's time we learned to uphold good without being mad
You can believe in hope and glory without living on a lark
But you can't fill the sky with arrows without being in the dark
It isn't always black or white, you mustn't always choose
Next time someone goads you, why not try once to refuse
The earth won't break in half, the universe won't unfurl
But one kind, simple act can transform someone else's world

Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Aeguary, in the year 651 AF.
