Poems on treason and faithfulness

Faithful (tanka)

The earth takes the blood
Of traitor, of defender
Bearing mute witness
Never asking on which side
For which truth were you fighting

Evidence (free verse)

Forgive my treasonous fingerprints,
still lingering on your things -
Forgive my mouth the way it caresses your name.

My heart calls for punishment:
Put my body to death. Exile my memories.
Sue the ground we walked on; it brought us together.
Prosecute the air we breathed for sustaining us.

The story of how we met must go into hiding.
Your secrets will take refuge beneath someone else's skin.

The charges are harsh but the crime is severe:
My tongue is still faithful to you. What betrayal,
refusing to sing songs of new lovers.

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Miraman, in the year 645 AF.
