The Carnival

The Carnival man is gone
Ringmaster is weeping
As he looks upon the clown
Makeup smears in chaos
Down cheeks already red
Still the bearded woman sings
Her soft baritone lament

Go on, take a final bow
We're all watching
There's no turning back now

Louie the giraffe laughed
Neck tied in knots
On the Monger's behalf
Lions roar in agony
While whips they do lash
If only you could see...

Go on, take a final bow
We're all watching
There's no turning back now

Spin, carousel, spin
Toss a ring and see his face
There's no way you can win
The Carnival man is gone
Tis the final show
And only the mime's know

Slowly like burnt caramel
She dances and sways
Shoes of pointed toes and bells
Nobody sees the sadness
Transfixed upon smiles
They all rise as he strides in....

Go on, take a final bow
We're all watching
There's no turning back now

Penned by my hand on the 12th of Aeguary, in the year 639 AF.
