An Admonition

In all my years I've noticed curious things
In ways some who have power choose to act
Like those who use their might simply to cling
To seats from which they should have long been sacked
Or those who see position as the end
Who work no more or simply just pretend
Among these people there's a common theme
They fear the young, suspecting them of schemes.

It makes no sense, it seems they've all forgot
That once upon a time, they too'd been taught
And given opportunity to shine
Because of this, to see the young maligned
Is painful - instead we should foster growth
Encouraging them not to break their oaths
Through good example show that we are strong
Teach youth that with hard work, they can belong.

I do believe it quite a massive shame
When futures are neglected for our nows
If we do not prepare our fields with ploughs
A failed crop leaves only ourselves to blame
When tilling, we should work hard, use our backs
To make sure that there is no latent lack
Of education or experience
Who knows? You may discover brilliance.

With that said, coddling's not the goal I seek
For interest should not be too falsely piqued
Direct those with a passion to be great
And if they waver, set them once more straight
No matter what we do, those who have drive
Will still continue upwards as they strive
So do not fear that they'll usurp your throne
If we guide well we'll be proud that they've grown.
