iding in Shadows

?You hide in the shadows,? he said to me.
?Do I?? I queried in stunned reply.
?You should talk more.? the response.
?Why?? I asked.

Why? I asked myself.
Why are the shadows a hiding place?
Serpents love shadows ?
But monk?

?Maybe I?m shy.? I replied.
Is shyness why shadows draw?
Something deeper.
Fear.

What am I afraid of?
I asked myself.
Too young. Too innocent.
Too naïve. Too...

What is there to be afraid of?
Pain. Death. Mediocrity.
They might find out who I am.
Laughter. Rejection. Gossip.

Return to the shade, the shadows.
Hide in the gloom. It feels safe.
Be invisible. Be silent.
A haven.
For now.

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Daedalan, in the year 624 AF.
