The Past

I know the hurt from long ago
Still aches within your chest,
But how many years will it take
Until you let it rest?

The things now gone were the source
Of hot words and salty tears,
But the rest of us have let it go.
Tell me, what are your fears?

Do you wish never to forget
A dark and dreary time?
Are you scared you may again
Break your heart on the line?

I admit that I did have
Reservations too,
But lasting hate is not my song.
Should it be sung by you?

Penned by my hand on the 17th of Sarapin, in the year 616 AF.
