The Advent of Spiritlore

"A terrible rending feeling shakes the foundations of your soul, and you feel your connection to the Veil weakening."

Shamans throughout the land paused as they felt their connection to the Spirit realm weaken, the defining bond growing worryingly fainter still as the month of Ero in 669AF stretched on. Tentatively, individuals began to reach out to one another, confirming the feeling among all shamankind. A final, plaintive plea from Kalden, guardian of the Veil alerted them to the gravity of their plight. Desperate to connect across the Veil, he took possession of Elegnem.

A battle pitched within the old Tomacula shaman as she fought Kalden's influence, crying out for help to all the shamans of the world. Soon, the gathered practitioners of the shamanic arts learned that Kalden could not maintain this link for long. Turning to Eritei, the Tomacula medicine woman for guidance, she soothed the tortured Elegnem and sent the group on a daunting quest to enlist the aid of notable shamans across the continents, the intrepid helpers from all over Sapience working together to collect a series of talismans linked to powerful Spirit influences. After many days trekking across the world, the dedicated adventurers returned to Eritei, combining the power of the talismans to draw Kalden through the Veil once more.

Once materialised, the Veil guardian revealed that it was the age-old connection to earth magic and runelore that slowly deteriorated the link between all shamankind and the Spirit realm, the heavy, stolid influence of the ground hampering and tearing at the ephemeral, changeable Spirit realm. Together with Kalden, the shamans vowed to forsake their knowledge of runes in return for a renewed and deeper bond with the spirits. The tired gathering carved their last totems, and inscribed them with the last runes they'd ink as shamans, before feeding them into fire, willingly sacrificing their runelore, closing off their link with the earth, and embracing the Spirits fully.

Cries of celebration echoed off the mountains and across the seas as shamans everywhere rejoiced in the knowledge of Spiritlore waking within each.

Penned by My hand on the 16th of Ero, in the year 669 AF.
