21.1 Societies of Midkemia

What are societies?
Societies are adventurer-created and adventurer-run organisations. A society could be:
   - a Noble House with various titles
   - a chess club with annual dues
   - a death cult
   - a group of performers
   - a family

Societies are highly customisable. Use your imagination when forming them! See the current list of all societies in HELP SOCIETYLIST.

Basic society information
Anyone may join a society, and you may be in up to ten societies. This number may be increased by purchasing SOCIETY SLOTS (see HELP 21.4 ADDING SOCIETY SLOTS). A society is led by one individual who is the undisputed leader of the society . He cannot be replaced unless he chooses to be.

In order to form a society, you must go to Society Headquarters in Yabon, and have 50 gold sovereigns in Kingdom currency in your inventory. You must know what you wish to call your society (you can change it later), as well as know what you wish to nickname your society (this is can also be changed later by the society's leader). See the next section for more details.

Forming a society
FORM SOCIETY NAMED <name1> | <alias>

   - The first name can be up to 50 characters long and can be multiple words.

   - The second name can be only 1 word and no longer than 15 characters. It's
more like an alias, so that, for instance, instead of typing SOCIETYHELP
THE DIAMANTE FAMILY, adventurers can just do SOCIETYHELP DIAMANTE (if
that's what the founder called the society alias).

   - You must separate the society name and alias with the | character.

   - You must have 50 gold in your inventory, and be standing in Society
Headquarters, in the city of Yabon. The 50 gold will be taken as
     the fee for society formation.

   - Upon forming the society, you will automatically be the society head.

Transferring a Society
Societies may be transferred as the owner of the society sees fit. The society newsboard comes along with it, with all of its existing posts. An immortal or admin will not clear the board for you either, so please don't ask. It's part of the price of getting a second-hand society!
